Shabby Chic Birdies!

I've been wanting to incorporate birds into our decor for quite some time now, especially cuz I see them everywhere from Target to Pottery Barn and everywhere inbetween!  Then I spotted some cute birdies at the Dollar Store and thought for a buck each...why not!  But of course a lil' revamp was needed.

This peachy colored, two toned finish had to go!  A little craft paint in "Butter Cream" was the perfect base.

All painted up, and ready for some glaze!  For craft glaze I mix one part craft paint to one part water, and then mix.

At first I added a glaze in "burnt umber"...then realized it was too dark. I finally added one more coat of the "butter cream" glaze and got the perfect light, distressed finish.

Awww...shabby chic little birdies!  I think I like this light finish against all the warm copper's and brown's in my dining room!
..

Okay birdies...smile for the camera!  Yup, they look good and I think they know it!  Amazing what you can find at the Dollar Store these days!

  20. I <3 the birdies! I have one of these from Dollar Tree, but haven't decided just what to do with it yet. Yours look great! Thanks also for the tip on creating craft glaze, I have been kind of doing the same thing, but not feeling too sure of myself. Love your blog!

  22. How neat is that!! I never notice stuff like that. :)

  23. Yes, yes, I bought those too and was contemplating that painting. I think I am going to do the cream with a aqua-ish hue glaze, or maybe a kiwi green glaze...hmm, don't know. What I have a question on is, did you do anything to remove that sand-ish finish to it, or is it still textured with the sand?
